Organisation Introduction

De Nora is an Italian multinational company founded in 1923 by Oronzio De Nora, listed on the Euronext Milan stock exchange, specializing in electrochemistry. It is the world’s largest supplier of high-performing catalytic coatings and insoluble electrodes, a leading provider of equipment, systems, disinfection, and filtration solutions for water and wastewater treatment.

De Nora’s technologies are recognized as high-value enablers for many industrial applications: primary chemicals production, electronics applications, water purification, galvanic processes, energy storage, infrastructural corrosion protection, and many others.

De Nora has 25 operating companies in 10 countries and 5 R&D centers in Italy, the United States, and Japan, which ensure the continuous improvement and enlargement of its proprietary technologies covered by more than 260 patent families with over 2,800 territorial extensions. De Nora is committed to developing unconventional solutions to achieve the energy transition towards decarbonization, enable the hydrogen economy and ensure clean water for everyone. Accordingly, De Nora aims to contribute concretely to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda, with the aim to provide low and zero-emission energy solutions while minimizing the impact on the environment.

Specifically in technologies for Green Hydrogen production, De Nora is already a global leader on both products (DSA® electrodes for Alkaline Water Electrolysis (AWE), electrolysis cells, Gas Diffusion Electrodes (GDE) for fuel cells) and services (electrodes manufacturing, recoating and repair, spare parts, supply and maintenance agreements, engineering design, joint development).

However, continual improvement is part of De Nora’s core pillars: its continuous product and process innovation enhance the performance of De Nora’s diverse and growing portfolio. Founded on solid know-how and recognized leadership, De Nora never stops reinventing and adapting to a rapidly changing environment.

Therefore, with its innovative approach, the REDHY project fits De Nora’s main mission of leveraging green technologies for value creation, while scouting new technologies and to keep alive the network with European R&D institutes and partners.

What in REDHy?

De Nora will carry out a Life Cycle Analysis, coupled with a techno-economic and circularity assessment of REDHY technology. This will be both carried out in the middle of the project, to inform partners during the design phase, and at the end of the project.

De Nora will collect and review data on consumptions and emissions from other partners, and eventually compute potential environmental impacts and techno-economic performances of the technology. The assessment will span across all life cycle stages of the technology: from its production and manufacturing, to its use, and eventually to the foreseen end-of-life.
