CENmat

Organisation Introduction

Cutting-Edge Nanomaterials UG (CENmat) is a company based in Pforzheim, Germany, founded in 2019 as a Spin-Off of the German Aerospace Center, with a focus on the development and manufacturing of electrolysers. CENmat is a vertically integrated water electrolyser company built for the climate era. Their technologies allow the production of economical and truly green hydrogen with electrolyser technologies that are sustainable, scalable, highly efficient and low-cost for a green and fossil-free future.

Why REDHY?

CENmat is dedicated to revolutionizing the electrolysis industry by speeding-up the elimination of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) and introducing fluorine-free materials to the market. Through extensive research and development efforts, CENmat has successfully engineered high-performance PFAS-free membranes suitable for both Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) and Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technologies.

Our involvement in the REDHY project is aligned with our overarching objective. This initiative aims to integrate these technologies, combining AEM and PEM, to create a groundbreaking bipolar membrane. By using the strengths of both technologies, we aim to deliver a solution that not only eliminates the use of PFAS but also enhances the efficiency and sustainability of electrolysis processes.

Through the REDHY project, CENmat continues to drive innovation in the electrolysis industry, paving the way for a greener and more environmentally responsible future.

What in REDHy?

In the REDHY project, CENmat will take charge of developing the crucial fluorine-free bipolar membrane. We will lead the research and development efforts, leveraging our expertise to ensure its successful production. Additionally, we’ll actively collaborate with our partners to streamline and scale up the catalyst production processes.
