REDHy Reaches Milestone 6: Successful Scale-Up of Bipolar Membrane Production

REDHy has reached Milestone 6 with the successful scale-up of bipolar membrane (BPM) production to a large area of 400 cm².

CENmat led the scale-up activities, focusing on the proton exchange membrane (PEM), as the anion exchange membrane (AEM) had already been produced at areas exceeding 900 cm². Following careful optimization of the membrane casting process, CENmat successfully manufactured large-area BPMs (>400 cm²).

Samples from the scaled-up BPMs were tested in a 4 cm² cell and demonstrated the same electrochemical performance as the small-scale membranes. This achievement confirms the reproducibility and scalability of the BPM manufacturing process and represents an important step toward integration into larger REDHy system components.
